We're happy to finally announce the release of our Cast Iron Turbo Manifold for the 91-01 Jeep 4.0L!
***Sold as Manifold only! No hardware or gaskets are provided at this time***
- A little History:
Boostwerks began producing hand fabricated stainless steel turbo manifolds for the Honda community back in 2010 before beginning to produce manifolds for the 4.0L. We've learned a lot over that time, one being that while the market interest is there, the price tag was simply hard to swallow for many. Considering each manifold required roughly 20 hours of fab time and nearly $400 in materials to produce, it simply wasn't possible to lower the price while maintaining quality. Our new cast iron version on the other hand now allows us to not only significantly lower the price, but also produce a better flowing and highly durable solution.
- The New Cast Iron Design:
Manufactured from a high nickle Iron alloy, the manifold is able to withstand the demanding heat generated by common turbo setups. This is the same alloy that most turbine housings and OEM turbo manifolds are made of. A thick wall construction combined with a turbine priority flow design help produce quick spool up even with a relatively large turbo. The manifold was designed around the XJ Chassis, but will work with other Jeep models as well (some may require a custom up pipe to place the turbo in a better location for the chassis). It has a universal T3 Turbine Inlet flange allowing for a wide range of turbo sizes depending on your application and intended use. The external wastegate port is a 38mm 2 bolt style which allows for a block off plate if you'd rather use an internal wastegate'd turbo.
- Considerations:
Custom turbo charging can be fun and rewarding, but should not be done unless you've done your research as well as committed and comfortable to do all that is required to build a well functioning setup. Those required Items are but not limited too:
- Proper oil feed and drain line function (requires a drain bung to be put into the oil pan)
- Proper Tuning (Both Fuel and Ignition)
- Proper Heat Control. (The inlet/outlet port design of the 4.0L head presents a challenge that requires heat sheilding and/or wrapping of sensitive components)
- Proper Exhaust and Charge Pipe routing (A down-pipe, wastegate dump tube and charge piping will need fabricated).
Over the next few months we will be working on putting together a '4.0L turbo guide' that will outline the basics of building your own turbo setup. We do not sell complete kit's however at this time, but will be working towards developing them.
